A development agreement for 15 and 31 East Victoria Street was given first reading on Monday night, as recommended at a January 8 meeting of the Planning Advisory Committee. This development agreement will allow for a six-storey mixed-use building containing between 52 and 62 dwelling units, in addition to the already-approved 3-storey, 24-unit apartment building on three abutting properties bordered by East Victoria Street, Maple Avenue, and Electric Street. A Public Hearing on this project is scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 5 pm, to take place at Amherst Town Hall.

Two Amherst men are facing drug trafficking charges following a vehicle stop during the early morning hours of January 8th, 2024. Both men have been arrested and are scheduled to appear in court on the charges.
Municipalities Launch Public Education Program for Recycling

Cumberland County’s three municipalities and their solid waste partners are launching a public education program to reduce the amount of contamination in recyclables going to the county’s solid waste facility at Little Forks for processing.
The Town of Amherst, Town of Oxford, the Municipality of Cumberland, Miller Waste and GFL Environmental are launching the campaign that features solid waste messaging as well as radio spots on CFTA and CKDH encouraging people to take care when sorting recyclables.
When sorting recyclables, residents/businesses are required to put paper products in a separate bag from plastic containers. Materials that are not sorted properly cause operational issues and delays with processing.

AMHERST, Nova Scotia – On Monday night, Council approved the revised Poverty Reduction Advisory Committee Terms of Reference for the Town of Amherst, which will include a committee comprised of staff, Council, and community stakeholders who can best support the Town of Amherst action plan on poverty reduction.
