The Amherst Fire Department proudly serves the Town of Amherst and nearby areas with a dedicated team of over 50 volunteer firefighters, eight full-time career firefighters, and additional casual staff. Led by Fire Chief Greg Jones, Deputy Fire Chief Mark Goodwin, Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Landry, and Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Bob Sperry, the department provides around the clock emergency response and support to approximately 18,000 residents in our coverage area.
Our fleet includes 10 specialized units: three pumpers, a tanker, a 100‑foot aerial ladder truck, a rescue unit, a hazardous materials unit, a command vehicle, Pumper Joe, and a fully restored 1936 antique pumper that embodies the department’s long standing pride and tradition. With career firefighters working 24 hour shifts and all members remaining on call 24/7, the Amherst Fire Department responds to roughly 300 alarms each year. Training, preparedness, and professionalism remain at the core of everything we do.
Supported by the Amherst Town Council and our community, the department is committed to strong leadership and modern emergency service delivery. As the needs of today’s fire and emergency landscape evolve, the Amherst Fire Department continues to operate as a community centered organization dedicated to protecting lives, property, and the well being of the region we proudly serve.
