Town of Amherst Municipal Election - Notice of Poll
September 11, 2024
TAKE NOTICE THAT the following nominations have been received in respect to the Municipal Election to be held in the Town of Amherst on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
Electors may vote between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, or if they are qualified to do so, at the Advanced Polls, which will be available from October 10, 2024 at 12 Noon local time until 7:00 p.m. on October 19, 2024.
All voting is via internet or telephone. There are no paper ballots. All qualified voters properly entered on the list of electors will receive a Voter Instruction Letter with their voter credentials and detailed instructions.

- Visiting the Amherst Town Hall at 98 Victoria Street East, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. for the period from August 12 to August 23.
- Or, by contacting the Returning Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (Mon-Fri) from August 12 to August 23.

The Amherst Youth Town Council acts as an advisory body to the Amherst Town Council on those matters within the influence of the Town of Amherst that have an impact on the youth of the town, regardless of their cultural and religious identity, socio-economic background, intellectual and physical abilities, sexuality or gender. The AYTC works to improve the image of the Town of Amherst by raising the profile of the town’s youth. The AYTC also works to create community awareness of youth facilities, youth services, youth organizations and the opportunities and programs they provide.

Hi my name is Kennedy Newman. I am 16 and I’m in grade 11 at ARHS. I love spending my time playing curling and badminton. My favourite subjects in school are mathematics and science. When I get older I wish to become a social worker so I can help my community.

Hi, my name is Avery Hoeg-Burbine, and I’m proud to be part of the Amherst Youth Town Council! I’m passionate about making sure every young person in our community feels heard and included. Some stuff about me is, I’ve been playing guitar for 4 years now, I go to EB Chandler and I'm in grade 9, I love playing volleyball with friends, and painting. I am involved with Student Council at EB Chandler. My future plan upon graduating from ARHS is to work for the town and possibly go to college! What I about Amherst is the environment and how beautiful Amherst is.

I am 15 years old and I’m in 10th grade; I go to Amherst Regional High School. I play many sports, basketball, soccer and table tennis. I am in the senior concert band at ARHS and play the clarinet. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and watching sports. When I am older I would either like to be a doctor or a teacher. What I like about Amherst is how welcoming everyone is!

Hi I’m Ava! I’m 16 years old, and attend Amherst Regional High-school. Where I have the role of Student Council Secretary! I play soccer and do track. In my free time, I enjoy working out, running, and hanging with my friends. After graduating, I hope to own a gym business or become a Phys Ed teacher. I also hope to travel as much as I can! What I love about Amherst is the community and diverse people we have here!

Hi! My name is Isla Crocker, and I’m in grade 8. I love playing sports, basketball, soccer, track, and golf are my favorites! I’m also on student council at my school, which is really fun because I get to help out and be part of fun activities and events. I also play the trombone in my school concert band! When I’m not at school or playing sports, I love hanging out with my family and friends. I like trying new things, having fun, and just enjoying every day!

This is my first year with AYTC. I am 17 years old and I go to ARHS. I’m in grade 10 and I like basket ball, soccer and in my spare time I like to go out with friends or hangout with family. What I like about Amherst is how nice and kind the people are.
Levi Allen

First year on AYTC.
Hi, my name is Levi Allen. I am 16 years old and in grade 11 at ARHS. I just joined AYTC this year. I am part of the school band and I play percussion. Also, I enjoy sports, in school I am part of the cross-country team as well and the track and field team, outside of school I am part of a competitive swim team called the Sharks. When I am out of high school I plan to go to Dalhousie University and enroll in the medical sciences program with hopes of becoming an ER Doctor. Something I like about Amherst is our sense of community. I had lots of fun helping out with the Y-Reach program over the summer. I look forward to meeting even more people in the community!

This is my first year on AYTC. When not involved with the AYTC, I like to go to youth group or hang out with my friends. My future plans include attending NSCC to take early childhood education with the goal of working with children. What I love about Amherst is that everyone is polite and welcoming in the community. It is a good place to call home.

Third year on AYTC.
I am a Grade 9 student at ARHS. I play flute in my school’s band. I love sports like softball, soccer, badminton and track and field teams. I also enjoy water sports like swimming and kayaking. In my free time, I like painting and sketching. I have a passion for animals and hope to become a veterinarian in the future. What I love about Amherst is the caring people and all the fun events and activities.
