Counillor Leon LandryBiography

A proud Acadian, Coun. Leon Landry was born and raised in Amherst.

He attended Amherst Regional High School, where he was an avid athlete and a member of the band program.

After high school, he graduated with a bachelor of arts in philosophy from Dalhousie University in Halifax in 2003. In 2009, he graduated with a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology – specializing in renewable energy systems – from New Brunswick Community College in Moncton.

Landry returned to Halifax to teach electronics and math at Canadian Forces Base Stadacona. Throughout these years, no matter where he found himself, Landry always considered Amherst his home, and he came home often to visit with family and friends. Currently, Landry is employed as a technician with Xerox.

On Sept. 19, 2017, his daughter, Autumn, was born and his world changed as his daughter helped him grow into a person that believes in a spirit of community.

This community spirit motivated him to take part in a variety of community activities including being assistant coach of the ARHS Senior Boys Basketball Vikings, chair of the local Community Health Board, volunteering with grounds maintenance at the Amherst Little League Field, creating the Cumberland Dad’s Peer Support Group, and working with other community support initiatives.

A first-term councillor, Landry wants Amherst to become a community we are all proud of!
