As we approach the fifth anniversary of the 2020 mass casualty, Amherst remembers and honours all 22 victims, their families, and friends.
Flags will be lowered to half mast at Town facilities this afternoon and will remain in place over the long weekend.

Town of Amherst facilities closed over the Easter weekend

Town Hall, the public works garage, and the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre are closed Friday, April 18 through Monday, April 21 - re-opening on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The Amherst Stadium is closed Friday, open Saturday, then closed again until May 5 for annual maintenance.
Amherst Police and Fire services will operate as normal over the Easter weekend.
If emergency service is required of the public works garage, please call Amherst Police dispatch at 902-667-8600.

Amherst Stadium closing for annual removal of ice surface

The Amherst Stadium will be closed from April 21 to May 4 for the annual removal of the ice surface. The facility will reopen on May 5 with daily operating hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Victoria Street E. closed for emergency watermain repair

*This repair work was completed and Victoria Street East re-opened to traffic*
Victoria Street East is currently closed from Havelock Street to Acadia Street. A watermain has ruptured and needs immediate repair, which will be completed as soon as possible.
Customers in the immediate area may experience water service disruptions.
Drivers are advised to plan an alternate route.

Men Arrested and Charged with Break, Enter and Theft

Two men have been arrested and charged in relation to an early morning break and enter into a building in the Amherst Industrial Park.
Christopher Lee Glennie, aged 48 and Jason Edward Glennie, aged 52, both of River Hebert, NS have been charged with:
- Break and Enter
- Theft under $5000
At approximately 4:00am on Thursday April 10th, 2025, an Amherst Police Officer observed a vehicle in a parking lot of a local business that was closed. The vehicle was occupied by a lone male. The officer checked the occupant of the vehicle while other members attended and checked an adjacent property and located a second vehicle that was occupied by a lone male. The second vehicle had numerous items that had allegedly been taken from inside the building that it was parked behind. Both men were arrested and both vehicles were seized.
The matter is still under investigation by the Amherst Police Department and the accused parties were held in custody for a brief court appearance on April 10th, 2025. Both men were released by the courts and are scheduled to appear in court again on May 12th, 2025.

Church Street closed - emergency watermain repair

Church Street is closed between Beacon Street and Wellington Street to complete an emergency watermain repair. Detour signage is in place and drivers are advised to plan an alternate route.
Surrounding residences may experience water service disruptions during this repair work, which will be completed as quickly as possible.
