Biography
Councillor Terry "Mouser" McManaman was born and raised in Amherst and graduated from Amherst Regional High School. Upon graduation, he was employed for 15 years at Amherst’s School for the Deaf as a Residential Counselor. During Terry’s career at the school, he took great pride in never missing a day of work, even after it was announced that the school would ultimately be moving to Halifax.
Terry’s next professional role was with the Correctional Service of Canada, working at the Springhill Institution for 21 years. In 2002, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal for outstanding contributions to his community. And, in 2017, Terry retired.
For many years, Terry loved playing on hockey and baseball teams. In fact, he played on all of the Cumberland provincial hockey teams and was a member of the 1971 Nova Scotia provincial champions. Then, in 1976, he was a member of the Midget Nova Scotia championship team; he won the high school fastball championship; and, he was a player on the Nova Scotia baseball championship team.
He has also been a tireless volunteer, serving his community in a variety of roles across the sporting spectrum. Terry was a past co-ordinator of Amherst Special Olympics, and he volunteered for 17 years as a coach with the organization; he has served on several Canadian championship committees, including coaching all provincial hockey teams in the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association, and serving as head coach for the 2005 Nova Scotia Champions Midget Minor AAA team; he is past president of the local boy’s, teen’s, and men’s ball hockey leagues; he coached the 2000 Daily News Cubs to little league championships with a 22-0 undefeated season; and, for the past four years, he has been the coaching co-ordinator of Amherst Little League Baseball.
These are only some of Terry’s sports roles as player, coach, president, co-chairman, general manager, and more. Because sport is so close to Terry’s heart, he would like to see Amherst have a new multi-purpose sport complex to ensure local athletes and visiting teams have the facilities to help them thrive. In addition to sports, Terry would like to help create more events to bring people to Amherst – to enjoy everything our town has to offer and help contribute to the local economy.
Terry is married to Dawn Laurette and they will celebrate their 40th anniversary on December 29, 2024. Together, the couple have raised two sons – Scott and Shawn. Terry and Dawn are also adoring grandparents to Bennett, William, and Addison.
In 2024, Terry was named Amherst's Volunteer of the Year.
As a member of Town Council, Terry is looking forward to serving the citizens of Amherst with the same level of dedication and passion he has shown for all of his commitments over the years.

Biography
Deputy Mayor Charlie Chambers moved to Amherst at the age of five. He grew up in Amherst, attending St. Charles Elementary School and Amherst Regional High School.
Upon graduation from high school, he joined the staff of the Amherst Daily News, rising to the position of sports editor. He worked about seven years at the paper before departing to work at the school for the deaf as a house parent for two years.
From 1990 to 1994, he attended the Nova Scotia Teachers College. Upon graduating from there, he returned to the community, spending the next 27 years teaching at Amherst Regional High School. There he taught every subject except French and science.
He retired in 2021, shortly after contracting COVID. Following his recovery, he continued being involved in education as a substitute teacher, which he has done for the past two years.
Chambers has also been very active as a volunteer basketball, softball and golf coach, having spent more than 20 years with each organization. He currently is an assistant coach with the ARHS girls' basketball team and boys' softball team.
Married to Ruth Currie, they have a son, Oliver Black, and daughter-in-law, Andrea. Oliver and Andrea just welcomed their first child, Maeve.
Chambers is looking forward to helping people bring their issues to town council and to working with the mayor, fellow councillors and town staff to help keep the Town of Amherst the thriving community that it is.

Biography
Dwayne was born and raised in River Hebert, Nova Scotia. He transferred schools in grade 9 to Amherst Regional High School and has been a member of the Amherst community ever since.
Dwayne has always been an athlete, playing soccer and basketball in high school for the Vikings. He played for the Amherst men’s soccer team for 10 years until the team disbanded in 2021.
Dwayne’s interest in business led him to enroll in business school at Nova Scotia Community College in Amherst, where he graduated in 2016. Following that, he completed a term with Indigenous Affairs and then took a position in the learning department at NSCC.
In 2019, he launched his first business downtown, Curly’s Sports & Supplements, and hasn't looked back since. A year and a half later, He opened The Amherst Candy Shoppe, and in December 2022, he took on the contract to operate the Canteen at the Amherst Stadium. He now has a team of over 12 employees, including some of his closest friends and family, which he considers a great blessing.
Dwayne has helped lead the Community Christmas Dinner for the past three years, alongside a team of four other dedicated community members, while also volunteering his time on Christmas day during the event. He also plays a major role in hosting the family night markets in Downtown Amherst. He donates to many organizations, events, fundraisers, and benefits. He believes in the power of community.
Dwayne was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022 for dedication to the community. He was also awarded the Town of Amherst - Community Support and Service Award at the 2023 Cumberland Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala.
