A new fitness business in Amherst is helping people feel better – physically and mentally – one workout at a time. YourFitness, a private, home-based gym, has officially opened its doors at 60 Prince Arthur Street (side door to the left), offering clients a comfortable and personalized alternative to traditional fitness centres.

Deputy Mayor Davidson and Councillor McManaman stopped in recently to say hello and present the owner Jay Johanneson with a new business certificate.

YourFitness was born out of personal experience. After suffering a serious back injury on the job, Jay was determined to regain his strength and mobility. “At one point, I couldn’t even load the dishwasher,” he says. “But I started small – walking, stretching, light exercises. Over time, I felt stronger and in less pain. That’s when it clicked: if I can do this, maybe I can help others too.”

Located in a quiet residential neighbourhood, YourFitness is designed for people who want to get fit without the pressure or distractions of a public gym. Sessions are one-on-one, and clients have the option to train alone in complete privacy. “Wear your pajamas if you want,” Jay laughs. “This space is all about you – your pace, your comfort, and your goals.”

Deputy Mayor Hal Davidson and Councillor Terry McManaman met with Jay Johanneson - owner of YourFitness - to present him with a new business certificate and welcome him to the Amherst business community.

Jay is a certified personal trainer and offers custom workout plans for people of all ages and abilities, including those recovering from injuries, those new to fitness, and even athletes looking to boost their performance. “From someone who just had a baby to a high school athlete who wants to jump higher – we can build something that works.”

YourFitness is open seven days a week with flexible hours to accommodate busy schedules. Pricing is flexible, too – based on the package that works best for each client.

“I’m not trying to compete with the big gyms,” he says. “They’re great for a lot of people. But not everyone feels comfortable in that setting. If this space can be a launch pad for someone’s health journey – even if it’s just walking on a treadmill once a week – I think that’s a win.”

Those interested in learning more or booking a session can reach out to Jay directly by phone or text at 902-918-2659 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
