The Town of Amherst joins communities across Canada in mourning the tragic loss of life at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Alberta, on October 17, 2026.
On behalf of Amherst Town Council, staff and residents, we extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives. Our thoughts are also with those who were injured, and we wish them strength and healing in the days ahead.
We recognize the profound impact of this tragedy on the Canadian Armed Forces community, including serving members, veterans and their families, as well as the community of Wainwright.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the emergency responders, medical personnel and everyone who provided assistance in the aftermath of this devastating incident.
At this difficult time, the Town of Amherst stands in solidarity with all those affected, and with Canadians across the country who are mourning this loss.
