CUPE Contract Signing 20260527

CUPE Local 1233 President Kenny Lusby and Amherst Mayor Rob Small signed the new three-year collective agreement on Wednesday morning, officially adopting the new contract.

The current contract with Town of Amherst public works and recreation facilities unionized employees expired March 31, 2026. The management bargaining team met with the Local Executive on two occasions for negotiations and a new three-year agreement was reached. The wage settlement over the three-year agreement is 10.5%.

Other changes to the agreement include: housekeeping updates and the addition of a Letter of Understanding (LOU) that demonstrates a shared commitment to working collaboratively on sick leave and attendance management issues.

“On behalf of Council, I want to commend both bargaining teams for their professionalism, respect, and commitment to working collaboratively throughout this process,” said Rob Small. “Reaching a new collective agreement in this manner demonstrates the strong trust and mutual respect that has been developed between the Town and CUPE, and we appreciate the dedication shown by everyone involved.”

Overall, this represents a balanced and pragmatic outcome that reflects market conditions, advances an important operational priority, and maintains a positive labour relationship.
