Supporting Tumbler Ridge
- Details
On behalf of the Town of Amherst, I want to express our heartfelt support to the residents of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia following the recent tragic shooting.
While we are miles apart, small towns share a special bond – built on neighbourliness, resilience, and looking out for one another. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, first responders, and all those impacted by this senseless event.
We stand with the citizens of Tumbler Ridge and send strength, compassion, and solidarity from one small community to another.
Mayor Rob Small

African Heritage Month 2026
- Details
February is African Heritage Month all around the world.
Due to recent snowstorms, Amherst's African Heritage Month launch event was re-scheduled to this Friday, February 6. Things will happen a little differently this year.
Join us at 10 a.m. in Town Hall lobby, 98 East Victoria Street, for the reading of the proclamation and remarks from officials. We will unveil the 2026 African Heritage Month poster that represents this year's theme of Strength in Unity: Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power, and Progress.
We will have the Pan-African flag at Town Hall and we will take photos together inside.
Because the area around the YMCA flagpoles is surrounded by snowbanks, the Pan-African flag will be raised by Public Works at that location as soon as possible.
Any questions about African Heritage Month events can be directed to Town Hall at 902-667-3352 or
