Notice is hereby given that the Amherst Town Council intends to consider a By-law to Amend the Town of Amherst Fires and Burning of Materials By-law C-07.
The purpose of the amendments is to provide additional clarification around the use of recreational outdoor burning appliances fueled by propane or natural gas. This clarification is intended to ensure consistent understanding and application of the by-law’s requirements.

Two Vacancies on Audit Committee

Call for Citizen Appointments
The Town of Amherst is looking for interested citizens to fill two vacancies on the Town of Amherst Audit Committee. This committee assists Town Council in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities relating to finance and audit matters.
To be a candidate for appointment, a person must demonstrate all of the following qualifications to the satisfaction of Council:
- Possess a knowledge of finance and audit-related matters;
- Be of good character;
- Possess the skills and abilities to make the commitment of time and effort required to carry out committee responsibilities; and,
- Consent to criminal record and background checks.
Town Facilities Closed on September 30

Tuesday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. In recognition of this day, the following Town of Amherst facilities will be closed:
- Amherst Town Hall
- Public Works Garage
- Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre
- Amherst Stadium
Public Works emergency service: 902-667-7227.
Amherst Police and Fire services will operate as normal on September 30.
Facilities will resume regular operating hours on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Presentation on Significant Updates to the Building Code
Nova Scotia Building Officials Association Zone 1 will be holding free information sessions regarding some significant changes to the 2020 National Building Code and the 2025 Nova Scotia Building Code Regulations for builders and contractors. A free lunch or meal will be provided while quantities last.
Signs Will Be Removed From Utility Poles

Town of Amherst Operations staff will be removing unauthorized signage from utility poles throughout town as the installation of signs on utility poles is prohibited under pdf Section 6.4 (e) of the Land Use Bylaw(2.78 MB) , on page 29.
Staff will begin removing signs on Monday, September 22, 2025.
Signs will be available for recovery at the public works garage at 14 McCully Street.

Albion Street Paving September 18

Drivers are advised to avoid the intersection of Robert Angus Drive and Albion Street on Thursday, September 18.
Starting in the early morning, traffic lights will be disabled and traffic control personnel will be in place as paving begins in the intersection of Albion Street and Robert Angus Drive.
Anyone driving in this area starting early Thursday morning can expect delays. It will be best to avoid the area by planning an alternate route.
