Victoria Street East is closed between Lawrence Street and Station Street for an emergency repair. Barricades and detours in place. Drivers are advised to use another route if possible.

Wellington Street Closed July 25, 2025

Wellington Street is currently closed, due to concerns with a damaged tree. Crews are on their way to deal with the issue and open the street shortly afterwards. Drivers are asked to use an alternate route.
Hickman and Chamberlain Street Rail Crossing Closed July 25
- Details
The rail crossing at Chamberlain and Hickman Streets will be closed from approximately 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the morning of Friday, July 25. This closure is required to complete repairs to the roadway.
Barricades will be in place and drivers are advised to plan an alternate route during this time.

West Pleasant Street Closed between Albion Street and Park Street

Work has begun in the area of the railway underpass on West Pleasant Street to repair a retaining wall. This is the area known locally as the subway.
West Pleasant Street is closed at Albion Street to allow completion of this work. Another barricade is in place on West Pleasant at Park Street, but local traffic is able to drive around.
This street closure will remain in effect 24 hours a day until the job is complete this Friday, July 25.
Motorists are advised that this section of West Pleasant Street is accessible via the Park Street end. The sidewalk under the rail bridge will be closed to pedestrians during this work.

Additional work will take place the week of July 28 to replace the drainage grate in the street surface under the overpass.
This same street closure for West Pleasant Street will be required 24 hours a day until that work is complete.

Parking Changes Behind Credit Union

Please be advised that changes have been made to the parking area behind the Credit Union in downtown Amherst.
Along the exit lane from the George Blanch Memorial Parking Lot to Havelock Street, parking used to be designated on the left side. This is now a no parking zone.
Parking is now provided on the right side of the lane in clearly marked spots.
Additional Water Main Repair - Smith Road, July 17, 2025

Town of Amherst public works crews will be back on Smith Road in the Nappan area on July 17 to address an ongoing issue with the water main.
Work will begin at 8 a.m. and residents from civic number 1 through to civic number 581 will experience water service interruptions. This work should be completed before the end of the day, July 17.

Heartland Tour in Amherst July 17, 2025 – Watch for Participants

This is the second year The Heartland Tour will make a stop in Amherst. More than 400 participants of all ages will be enjoying organized physical activities at several different facilities in and around Amherst.
