Amherst Marks Remembrance Day

On November 11, 2024, Amherst paid tribute to its veterans with a respectful cerermony in Victoria Square. Many active service members and veterans took part in the event - both officially, and as attendees. Thank you to everyone who participated, and to everyone who came out to honour our veterans who fought for our country, and to honour those who continue to fight.

The cenotaph in Amherst's Victoria Square is adorned with memorial wreaths after Monday's Remembrance Day ceremony.
Construction Work on Industrial Park Drive

From Tuesday, November 12 through Friday, November 15, construction work will take place on Industrial Park Drive, from Albion Street to the area of Coast Tire.
Work will begin daily at 7 a.m. and will continue until at least 7 p.m.
The street will remain open, but flaggers will be in place and there will be traffic delays. Drivers are encouraged to plan an alternate route during this project.
Amherst Paints Crosswalks Downtown Honouring Veterans

Downtown Amherst features new memorial artwork in three of its crosswalks, all honouring the town’s veterans.
“This is Veterans’ Week, and Remembrance Day is this coming Monday, so we wanted to do something special to respectfully celebrate our veterans,” said Amherst Mayor Rob Small. “We’ve received a lot of interest recently from citizens who wanted to see us paint these memorial crosswalks – so, that’s exactly what we’re doing today.”
For the last few years, the Town has been working hard to grow its relationship with the Royal Canadian Legion’s Amherst branch, and the two organizations have partnered on a number of projects including the Afghanistan war memorial, as well as Remembrance Day and D-Day ceremonies.
Downtown Street Closures Today - Painting Crosswalks

Downtown streets will be closed at times today for the painting of crosswalks.
Victoria Street E. will be closed between Church and Havelock Streets. Then, Victoria Street E. will be closed between Lawrence and Church Streets.
These closures will take place in two phases to minimize impact. Barriers and detour signage will be in place, but motorists are advised to plan an alternate route during this time.
Robie Street Closed to Through Traffic

Robie Street is closed until approximately noon today, November 6, between Havelock and Church. There will be no through traffic, but accommodations are being made for residents of the street. Other drivers are asked to plan an alternate route.
Amherst Firefighters Hold Annual Banquet and Awards

The members of our Amherst Fire Department and the Amherst Firefighters' Association hold their banquet every year on the first Saturday in November, which took place this past weekend. This is an event for everyone to gather together, meet new members and socialize, as well as celebrate achievements.
All active members of the Amherst Fire Department gathered for a photo on the department's apparatus floor before the annual banquet got underway on Saturday night.
