Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Dispatch Coordinator at the Amherst Police Department, the Dispatcher will be responsible for various communication and administrative duties within the Dispatch Center. This position will include scheduled and on-call hours in a 24/7 environment.
Responsibilities May Include but Are Not Limited To:
- Receive emergency calls requesting police, fire, or other emergency services.
- Dispatch emergency units and track response.
- Access various computer systems including CPIC, PROS, JEIN, etc.
- Operate the TMR2 radio system, as well as other installed equipment.
- File generation, and other general office duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook with a minimum 40 wpm typing speed. (Knowledge of CPIC, PROS, JEIN considered an asset).
- Must be proficient in English (French considered an asset).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must have the ability to multi-task.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Must successfully pass an enhanced security clearance.
The successful candidate must travel for a one (1) week training course. Accommodations, meals and mileage at the expense of APD. The candidate will also receive extensive in-house training.

THE ROLE
We are seeking dedicated and community-focused individuals to join our team at the Amherst Police Department. This role is ideal for folks who are passionate about building positive relationships with community members while upholding the values of justice, fairness and public service. The Police Constable will work closely with residents, local organizations, schools and businesses to address concerns, reduce crime, and promote a safer and more connected community. Responsibilities will include emergency response, conducting preventative patrols, including foot patrols, and enforcing all criminal code and provincial and federal statutes. The Constable will endeavor to establish strong relationships in the community through regular patrols, public meetings, and local events and serve as a visible and accessible presence to build trust and enhance community well-being.
