Job Title: Seasonal Operator

Status: Full-Time Seasonal

Summary of Responsibilities

The Operator position is primarily focused on the operation, maintenance and repair of Town Infrastructure which includes, but is not limited to: water, sewer, storm sewer and street infrastructure; parks, buildings, machinery, vehicles and equipment. Operators also clear snow from Town streets, sidewalks, parking lots, building entrances and other areas as required.

Operators must inform their supervisor immediately of any safety hazards, disrespectful workplace occurrences, equipment mechanical failure, infrastructure problems and safety incidents.

Operators respond to call outs and emergency situations after normal working hours and perform necessary work to rectify the situation. This includes normal snow clearing operations, and other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Ability to safely operate assigned heavy equipment, including 3 to 5-ton trucks, back hoes, loaders, snowplows and sidewalk plows / blowers, a variety of hand tools and small machinery.
  • Ability to read and follow directions, safety manuals etc.
  • Ability to work in a result orientated, customer focused, team environment.
  • Carpentry, electrical, mechanical and welding skills are skills that may be used by Operators when the need arises.
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence with Air Brake Endorsement

Training

Depending on operational and safety requirements, training may include (but is not limited to): First Aid, WHMIS, CPR, Traffic Control, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Chain Saw Safety.

Working Conditions

The Operator position works both indoors and outdoors in all weather and working conditions. Operators work in confined spaces and at heights. Operators may use chemicals and other such dangerous materials. Operators must be able to stand, walk, sit, kneel as well as lift heavy objects.

Please note: this is a seasonal position that is recalled for the period of approximately May to November each year.

Salary

Per the current Collective Agreement - $30.47/hr
