NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT A BY-LAW REGARDING GRAFFITI AND GRAFFITI REMOVAL IN THE TOWN OF AMHERST, C-14
Notice is hereby given that Amherst Town Council intends to consider the adoption of a By-law Regarding Graffiti and Graffiti Removal in the Town of Amherst.
This proposed By-law would prohibit graffiti on structures, vegetation, property or things and prohibit property owners from allowing graffiti on their property. It would require property owners to ensure that their property is ‘graffiti free’. If graffiti is found to be on property, the Town may provide written notice that the property owner must remove it within 15 days. Hate-Based or offensive graffiti is to be removed within 24 hours of receipt of written notice. If the graffiti is not removed within these time frames, the Town can enter the property and remove the graffiti at the owner’s cost.
Council intends to give second reading of the By-law Regarding Graffiti and Graffiti Removal at its next regular meeting, scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM. The proposed by-law may be inspected and/or a copy obtained at the office of the Municipal Clerk, Dominion Public Building, 98 East Victoria Street, Amherst during regular business hours.
