Amherst Town Council hosted the annual Volunteer and Athletic Achievers Recognition Ceremonies Tuesday and Wednesday evening, celebrating the community’s tremendous efforts and accomplishments in both volunteer efforts and sport performance.

“The great success of our community events would not be possible without the achievements and efforts from community volunteers and athletic achievers here in Amherst,” said Mayor David Kogon. “I would like to extend my greatest appreciation to these individuals, who continue to make Amherst such a great place to live, work and play.”

Following introductory remarks by Amherst Facility and Scheduling Coordinator Corey Crocker and Mayor David Kogon, Amherst Town Council presented appreciation certificates to over 100 nominated volunteers and athletic achievers (please see list below).

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, April 23-29, Mayor Kogon presented a special plaque to Joan Fowler Tuesday evening, recognizing her outstanding contribution to the community and being named Amherst’s Volunteer Representative of the Year. Joan is a loyal, responsible and committed volunteer throughout the community, and has volunteered a great amount of her time to three local organizations including the Amherst Chapter Kidney Foundation, Christmas for Kids, and Dick’s Jamboree.

Mayor Kogon also presented a special plaque to Madelynn Carter, Amherst’s Youth Volunteer of the Year. Madelynn has demonstrated her ongoing dedication and commitment to the community`s youth sitting on Amherst Youth Town Council (AYTC) for six consecutive years, and this year being voted in as the Council’s 2016-17 AYTC Junior Mayor. Madelynn also excels academically and in her extracurricular activities.

The Town of Amherst would like to extend its deepest appreciation to the number of individuals and organizations who nominated volunteers and athletes for this special event.
