The countdown is on for our sixth annual Amherst Winter Carnival.
Activities and events from our community partners and businesses are filling up our schedule for the week of Feb. 11-17, 2020. Be sure to mark your calendar and keep an eye on our Facebook page for fun and active events the whole family will enjoy!
We will be hosting a head-scratching night of mental magic with mentalist Kevin Robart on Feb. 14 at the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre.
Think you’re unreadable or can’t easily be fooled? Then, this is the show for you. Attempt to spot the trick and see how he did it!
Ticket are $15 and can be purchased at Amherst town hall, the Amherst Stadium and Eventbrite.ca. Your ticket price includes chocolate-covered strawberries and appetizers. A cash bar will also be available.

We will be hosting the Town of Amherst Athletic Achiever Awards on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre. Be sure to come out and celebrate our local athletes. The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Join us for a fun afternoon of skating on the outdoor ice surface, on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be carnival-themed activities and hot chocolate! New this year is BYOC (bring your own cup)! Consider bringing your own travel cup or mug to help us help our planet. Extra cups will be available if you forget.
And don’t forget about our famous Chili Challenge! Things are sure to heat up as our local “celebrities” battle it out to claim the title of Chili Champion on Feb. 15 at Dayle’s Grand Market from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sample each one and cast your vote for the best.

February is African Heritage Month. It will be launched with a ceremony on Feb. 7 at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Center in Springhill. Follow us on social media for all the details.
Be sure to check out local events, such as the 50+ Club Valentines Dance or and the Winter Blues Valentines Dance hosted by the VON, both on Feb. 8. There’s also a free swim, sponsored by the Town of Amherst, at the YMCA of Cumberland on Feb. 15 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Did you know there is a rug hooking group that meets on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Deanne Fitzpatrick Rug Hooking Studio? Bring a brown-bag lunch and spend the afternoon. For more information call 902-660-3220.
And be sure to check out the Multicultural Club at the Four Fathers Memorial Library for Grades P-12 on selected Thursdays in February from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
