May 2, 2018: Outdoor facilities open for business

Outdoor facilities are opening as weather and maintenance permits. The Church Street tennis courts are open for business. The windbreak mesh at Lion’s Park courts is up and nets and benches are schedule to be installed. The Robb Complex basketball courts are open for play as well as the skatepark located beside the Stadium. Visit Amherst.ca and our Facebook page for indoor walking track spring hours as well as park washroom facility hours. Stadium upgrades, maintenance and renovations will be starting over the next few weeks. We have maintenance ongoing at Robb Complex and with weather permitting we should be opening very soon.

Fun Fact: Did you know we mow 105.8 acres of land? The parks crew and with some help of public works will be preparing the parks and trails over the next few weeks. Town employees can be seen working to improve areas such as the downtown, Beacon Street park, Rotary park, Lion’s park, Dickey park, Christie Park, Harding Park, Strawberry Fields and other green spaces.

The CHC Auxiliary’s 36th Highland Fling Family Fun Fair will take place on Saturday May 12 from 9am-2pm at the Amherst Curling Club. This annual event raises funds each year toward the purchase of hospital equipment. The dedicated committee and volunteers of the auxiliary have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars toward the purchase of much needed items. This year’s goal is to raise $36,000 to purchase respirators for ICU at the regional hospital. This Family Fun Fair offers food, fun and bargains, something for all ages.

Get your fishing poles ready! ‘A’ Family Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, May 26 at the Pumping Station Pond. There will be prizes for youth categories. Our Family First Summer program planning has started and we are excited to offer a busy fun filled summer full of activities for the whole family!
