What's Up Rec?

Hiking, swimming, just some of the ways to keep active

Wow! How are we just about halfway through Summer? Time flies when you’re having fun.

Back by popular demand, we’re walking and touring on Tuesdays again this year. It has been a lot of fun exploring various locations around our wonderful community. So far, we have visited the police station, the fire station, the library and the museum. The tour of town hall is on Aug. 13. On Aug. 20, we are visiting the post office. Meet at the Beacon Street park at 1 p.m.

Hiking Amherst trails hikers 2 B

Did you know Amherst has a trail system throughout our town?

If you are interested in exploring our trails, join us for Tuesday night trail walks, which are partnered with the Amherst and Area Trail Society. On Aug. 13, meet at Victoria Square for our trail walk. On Aug. 20, we are going for a walk at the Amherst Bird Sanctuary.

These walks are a great way to get out, meet new people and enjoy the beauty that Amherst has to offer, all while striving to reach our goal of becoming the most active, healthy community in Nova Scotia.

Free swims

The Recreation Department has partnered with the Cumberland YMCA to offer FREE recreational open swims on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until August 23.  Children under seven must be accompanied by a swimming adult. Call the YMCA at 902-667-9112 for more details.

Stadium closed

The stadium is closed to the public from Aug. 5 until Aug. 25 for mandatory repairs, maintenance, painting and ice making. The walking track will remain closed during this time.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
