Four in running for vacant council seat

Four citizens are seeking to fill a vacant seat on the Amherst town council.

Bill Archer, Charlie Chambers, Allan (Max) Davidson and Vaughn Martin are vying to fill the seat that became vacant with October’s resignation of Coun. Sheila Christie.

Election day is Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023. Advanced voting will be available between noon on Jan. 30, 2023, and the close of voting on election day.Municipal Byelection logo B

As with the 2020 municipal election, this election will be fully electronic and conducted via the internet or telephone. There will be no paper ballots.

Intelivote Systems, a Dartmouth-based company, is providing the electronic voting service. It is the same company the town used in the October 2020 municipal election. Intelivote has provided their services to many Nova Scotia municipalities and across Canada.

All qualified voters properly entered on the voters list will receive a confidential Voter Confirmation letter in the mail that contains their voter credentials and detailed instructions on how to cast their ballot. Letters are expected to be mailed out the week of Jan. 23.

Electors may find out if they are on the voters list by:

  • Visiting Amherst town hall, 98 Victoria St. E., Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Contacting the returning officer, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Telephoning 902-667-6527 or 902-667-6510 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Those seeking to find out if they are on the voters list will be asked their name, civic address and date of birth.

Anyone who has moved recently should call immediately in order to avoid confusion or delays on election day.
