As the leaves change hue, take some time to enjoy fall’s beautiful colours.
Studies show physical activity is essential for good mental health. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins that reduce feelings of pain and increase feelings of pleasure, boosting your mood. Exercise also reduces the amount of stress hormones floating around your body. So, visit one of our outdoor trails or tracks, or simply take a walk to clear your head and enjoy the fresh crisp air!
Recreational skating at the Amherst Stadium has resumed for the season. The Town of Amherst is proud to offer free daily skating as part of our Physical Activity Strategy, which supports an active healthy Amherst.

There’s coolness in the air and fall is starting to set in, but don’t let that stop you from being active in all our outdoor recreational spaces. All parks, trails and tennis courts remain open. Please note our washrooms are open daily from dawn to dusk.
The Amherst Stadium is full steam ahead, and here’s a friendly reminder about the Helmet Policy. The Town of Amherst is committed to the safety of all individuals and groups using the Amherst Stadium. Therefore, for the protection and safety of the public, the wearing of a Canadian Standard Association (CSA) approved protective ice helmet is mandatory. We look forward to working with you to ensure safety is our No. 1 priority.
The leaves are beginning to grace us with their magnificent fall colours, and bulb planting season is upon us.
Along with planting spring flowering bulbs in the fall, did you know that this is the perfect time of year to plant trees and shrubs? Planting trees in the fall prior to the ground freezing allows the tree to get settled in its new home before it goes dormant for the winter.
With fall upon us and a few frosts behind us, our plants will soon be preparing themselves for winter. The perfect time for putting your garden to bed for the winter is when your perennial foliage changes colour and starts falling to the ground.
It is almost the first day of fall. Officially beginning on Monday, Sept. 23, it will be time to dust off all those cozy fall outfits and get ready for the cool, crisp weather.
The Amherst Cumberland Multisport program is kicking off once again for the year. This program focuses on the importance of children, in the active start stage for long-term athlete development, to be exposed to multiple sports in order to get the best first experience when entering into athletics.
