April 27, 2018: Spring has Sprung

It sure feels like spring! Early morning sunrises, warmer temperatures and tulips are starting to sprout up. Spring clean-up is in full force. Town crews are working in parks, trails, and green spaces picking up sticks, litter, tidying up left over winter debris and prepping flowerbeds for the upcoming growing season and any maintenance needed. Town employees can be seen working to improve areas such as the downtown, Beacon Street park, Rotary park, Lion’s park, Dickey park, and other green spaces.

April 20, 2018: Celebrating Earth Day

Signs of spring are finally here, the birds are back, the crocuses are blooming and the tulips are slowly beginning to emerge. Soon the sun will warm up the earth in our gardens and we’ll be growing once again. Are you worried that you haven’t planted your tomato seeds or other veggies yet? No need to fret, you still have time to get your seeds planted and have a bountiful harvest this growing season. In fact, if you solely rely on the growing power from the sun for your seedlings, you may notice that when you plant earlier, they tend to get leggy and have weak stems this is because they are stretching to reach for the light. A later planting date for your veggie seeds may help you to produce a stockier, healthier plant or if an earlier planting is required, the addition of a small grow light may help to give your seedlings the boost they need to produce strong, healthy stalks.

March 23, 2018: Ringette and Tennis

Spring is officially here! We here at the “A” Team would like to extend our warmest wishes and thoughts to you for a Happy Spring ahead. Although there may still be some evidence leftover from the winter season, springtime is finally here and we hope that you will continue to join with us in helping to keep Amherst clean and tidy. Spring welcomes along with it an opportunity for a fresh start and new growth. We will be forming a Communities in Bloom committee this spring to help us improve upon our community as a whole. A public meeting will be held at the Community Credit Union Building Innovation Centre at 5 Ratchford St. on Wednesday, April 11 at 6pm. If you are interested in becoming an active member of the Communities in Bloom committee, we welcome you to attend.

April 6, 2018: We Love Volunteers!

Each year communities across Canada celebrate National Volunteer week to thank and honour individuals who donate their time to help others and support causes in which they believe. This year National Volunteer Week runs from April 15-21. We will be honouring our nominated local volunteers at the Town of Amherst Volunteer Appreciation Reception on Tuesday, April 17. Over 40 individuals will be recognized for their outstanding contribution to our community.
