Obtaining meaningful work is something Canadians from coast to coast to coast strive for, Amherst Mayor David Kogon said on Oct. 30, as he declared Nov. 1, 2019, to Nov. 30, 2019 as Canada Career Month in the Town of Amherst.
“We must also take the time to recognize all those that help us obtain those meaningful jobs, such as the local Nova Scotia Works-CANSA office,” Kogon said. “They offer many educational programs and services that benefit people as they seek to find those jobs. I encourage the citizens of Amherst and surrounding area to take advantage of those programs and services as they seek to find meaningful work.”
A revised Budget Management Policy will go before Amherst town council for approval on Oct. 28, 2019, following a unanimous decision made by the town’s committee of the whole during a meeting on Oct. 21.
The revisions, which were recommended by staff, will allow for earlier approval by council of the capital and operating budgets and provide an estimated timeline for approvals.
Staff indicated that earlier approval of the budgets may result in savings for the town and the earlier procurement of projects.
