An Amherst Area Heritage Trust event that will help preserve, promote and protect Amherst’s historic built heritage has received a $1,485 boost from the Town of Amherst.
“We’re very proud to present this Community Support Grant to the trust,” Mayor David Kogon said as he presented the cheque to trust representatives Leslie Childs and Denise Allan on Dec. 3.
“The town council and I urge people to support this new event that is bringing much needed attention to our historic homes and buildings. The council certainly supports the efforts of the Amherst Area Heritage Trust as it works to preserve our town’s history.”
Amherst town council approved the first reading of a proposed development agreement for 2 Abbott St. during their Nov. 25, 2019, council session.
The proposed agreement will allow the property owner to locate a detached dwelling on the property.
Before the development agreement can come into effect, a public hearing on the matter must be held and council must give it a second reading. The public hearing is scheduled for Jan 20, 2020.

With that in mind, the organizers of the second annual Amherst Cookie Crawl have extended the time participants have to collect the delightful treats from the participating local businesses as this year’s event is scheduled for the evening of Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7.
Stefan Deuville says he’s found a home with the Amherst Police Department.
“I have experienced a few different places as a police officer, and from my experiences, Amherst, for me, is the best place to work,” Deuville said, shortly after becoming a full-time constable with the Amherst Police Department.
The Truro native’s appointment went into effect on Nov. 10, 2019.
