Brandon Sutherland-Metz

Brandon is a 15 year old, grade 10 French Immersion student at ARHS. Brandon has been a member of AYTC since December 2011, and is the current chairperson for AYTC. In addition to AYTC, Brandon has been involved with the 154 Amherst Anson Air Cadet Squadron since age 12. Being raised in a community minded family, along with his experiences with the 154 and cadet movement have made him a more involved with youth in the community.

Brandon is involved in many volunteering and fundraising endeavors for non profit organizations, in the Town of Amherst. Currently, raising funds for cancer research is close at heart. Not only is Brandon committed to raising funds for the Relay for Life, he can be seen volunteering at food drives, and helping with setting up Autumn House fundraisers. Brandon also participates in many running events across Cumberland and Westmorland Counties, which assist other community groups, such as, the Salvation Army and the Terry Fox Foundation.

An avid runner, Brandon is involved in Track and Field and set a goal to make it to Provinicals during last Track Season. Heading into Provincials, Brandon was ranked 2nd, in the Province for the 100m Junior Boys event. Brandon hopes to continue to be part of the Track team at ARHS, this year. Brandon's physical recreation extends to Karate, too.

Over the Summer months, Brandon attends a Cadet Summer Training Course, offered at CFB Greenwood. He has completed Basic Training, Basic Survival and, most recent, the 6 week Survival Instructor's Course. At age 14, Brandon earned his Survival Instructor's Certificate. This year he hopes to study Advanced Aviation or Fitness and Sports Instructor course. Brandon's future plans involve earning his pilot's license and next summer, hopes to earn his Glider license. The following summer, his Power License.

Brandon is currently enrolled in the Duke of Edinburgh program, where he is working towards achieving his Bronze level.
